Trans Activists Pressure AMC Theatres To Cancel a Film on Youth Who Regret “Gender-Affirming” Drugs and Surgeries

It’s not often you see radical activists attack their own. But that’s exactly what happened when trans activists pressured AMC Theatres to cancel screenings of an award-winning documentary featuring stories of young people who regret having “gender-affirming  care”.

“No Way Back: The Reality of Gender-Affirming Care” would have premiered at AMC locations in June—until The Queer Trans Project launched an aggressive online campaign to boycott the movie theater and silence the voices of young people transitioning back to their birth genders.

The film was created by “lifelong California Democrats and LGBT activists,” according to a press release promoting the documentary. Through a series of interviews with youth detransitioners, doctors, and other healthcare professionals, it explores the topic of adolescents and switching genders with the assistance of drugs, hormones, and surgeries.

To be clear, the activists at The Queer Trans Project had not seen the documentary before they tried to cancel it. They just didn’t like the topic. If they had seen it, they might have discovered that it is well-researched and offers a compassionate space for young detransitioners to share their nuanced and extremely personal stories.

Participants in the documentary are not happy with the censorship.

“I think it’s incredibly dangerous to set this precedent of suppressing free speech, suppressing viewpoints that basically are just unpopular or difficult to deal with,” Laura Becker said to Fox News in an interview. Becker transitioned to a man while she was a teenager, using hormones and surgery, and was later diagnosed with PTSD and began reversing the transition.

She emphasized that the documentary does not try to push any kind of politics or ideology onto the viewers. In fact, most of the participants and filmmakers share values that are considered by most to be progressive. It makes sense—politics has nothing to do with medicine.

“There are many moderates, liberals and independents, such as myself and the filmmakers, who are just trying to increase awareness about mental health issues and medical ethics,” Becker explained.

But the far Left doesn’t care about medical ethics; they care about silencing the opposition. And corporate America is so afraid of getting canceled, it would rather censor the under-represented than weather a bad social media cycle.

In reality, AMC Theatres is the largest movie theater chain in the world. Hundreds of millions of moviegoers walk through the doors of an AMC theater each year. It would be nearly impossible for The Queer Trans Project, which has only been in existence for two years, to make a dent on AMC’s balance sheet.

And yet, the movie giant buckled under the slightest hint of pressure.

“Our community’s swift action is a testament to the power of advocacy and the importance of raising our voices against harmful content,” celebrated The Queer Trans Project on Instagram. The post received only 3,840 likes. Not exactly market-shifting numbers for AMC Theatres.

There is still time to push back. There is no consensus among medical providers on how to treat identity disorders, and the stories of these brave young detransitioners deserve to be heard.
